The roots of our firm began in 1928 when it was started by George Mitchell. In 1950, George Mitchell, H.W. Hockin and G.C.S. Dawson, along with a couple of other notable London lawyers, began to practice law together in London, Ontario.  Mitchell Hockin & Dawson came into being in 1960. Peter Hockin (now Mr. Justice Hockin) followed in his father’s footsteps and joined in 1974. Brian McCall articled and then joined the firm in 1978. Doug Dawson also followed in his father’s footsteps and joined in 1981. From the outset, while Mitchell Hockin & Dawson offered full legal services to its clients, the firm was also building its solid reputation as an insurance defence law firm in Southwestern Ontario.

Mitchell Hockin & Dawson merged with another London law firm, Harrison Elwood, in 1988, however the core group of litigators, Peter Hockin, Brian McCall and Doug Dawson, remained practicing together in the new firm in the area of personal injury/insurance defence. Focusing exclusively in the area of insurance defence, in 2003 Mitchell Hockin & Dawson re-emerged as McCall Dawson LLP. Sheila Handler joined the partnership in 2007, Jennifer Stirton in 2011, Tara Pollitt in 2014 and Kristen Dearlove in 2018.

McCall Dawson LLP brings to its present clients a longstanding history of continuous involvement in the London community and extensive experience in the area of insurance defence litigation. In particular, McCall Dawson LLP has developed expertise in defending insured claims against public authorities, including municipalities, police services, building authorities and the like. The core of the firm has continued to work together consistently for over half a century. While much has changed since the early days, the firm’s consistent and passionate devotion to excellence and client service remains unchanged.
